Inside an Athlete’s Mind…

During my interview with Ruben Garcia I got to know him more as an athlete. He explained to me how he feels about playing with the upper-classmen in his first year. His response was “it feels good; the experience of the other players makes me a better player.”  When Ruben made the team he felt like he had to prove himself to the coach by focusing and not taking everything as a joke. You can find Ruben at the position left defense, and center mid field. His personal goal for himself is to score a goal during the season. Being less experienced and going one on one with an opponent are Ruben’s biggest challenges. According to Ruben, his nickname is Ronnie on the school team referring to the show “Jersey Shore.” Outside the school team, Ruben has the nickname of SpongeBob given to him by his other coach Archie Muñoz.

Eduardo Preciado is a freshman on the JV team; also known as Lalo. Because he’s only a freshman, he feels like he has to prove himself because everyone else has their spot on the team. This is a harder level of playing Lalo is used to because everyone is older than him and has more experience. Lalo prefers left halfback but can play every other position. To prepare himself for a game, he pumps himself up with music and warms up with the rest of the team. One of Lalo’s aspirations is to score a chilena (bicycle kick) during the season. His most memorable moment so far as being part of the JV team has been when the team had to do San Diego’s (a running exercise that progressively gets harder) and Ruben yelling “this is for Snookie,” he thought it was humorous!

Next game will be againts Davis (Location in Davis @ 5)
