Now that the band is done with marching for this year of 2010, it is now time for them to start focusing on concert music. This Monday, December 13 at 7 p.m. in the DHS Theater, the band will be having their Winter Concert. Before the performance there will be a spaghetti dinner starting at 5 p.m. and the Jazz Band will be playing as people have dinner.
Don’t miss out on some really awesome songs. The first performance will be by the Wind Ensemble. This band consist of Dixon High School’s top instrumental performing students. These students are selected from the symphonic band, because of their outstanding music capabilities. The selected students perform advanced band literature. Combined with the symphonic band creating the Dixon High School Symphonic Band and Marching Band. The Wind Ensemble will be playing “God Rest You Merry Gentlemen” and “A Most Wonderful Christmas.”
The Symphonic Band without the Wind Ensemble will be playing “A Yultide Memory” and “Good King What-Salsa.” Together the Dixon High School Symphonic Band will be playing “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Every year the concert has been known to be really good, and this year there has been a great increase in the number of students in the band.
“The music will be really good, but you should really come and see how crowded all of us look on the stage. The stage is going to be packed with students, instruments, and stands. I’ll be surprised if the stage doesn’t cave in” (Anonymous Band Student).
I have been to the Winter Concert a twice and I agree that it is amazing to see how many students are able to fit on that small stage. Aside from the stage situation, the music is really good free entertainment.
Along with a performance there will be a series of basket raffles. Each section of the band made a basket to raffle off at the concert. There is a movie basket, picnic basket, and a few more that contain a variety of goods that everyone is going to enjoy.
Last, but not least the winners of the Ram Plot Raffle will be announced that night. The winner doesn’t have to attend the concert, but it is free enjoyable entertainment. Everyone is invited to the spaghetti dinner and the concert.
