Walk 4 Life!

On Saturday, January 22 the 7th annual Walk For Life will take place in San Francisco.  This event helps spread the word on truly valuing the gift of life, through a peaceful walk through San Francisco.  Everyone is invited to join whether you are involved in a religion or if you just believe that a “person is person no matter how small.”

Every year St. Peter’s Catholic Church gets a few buses to take a group of people to San Francisco.  Everyone is welcome to come on the bus ride.  The cost is $30 and they plan on meeting at the church at 8 a.m. and returning to Dixon by 8 p.m. .

The Walk for Life, in San Francisco, started in 2005. During 2005 only 5,000 people participated on the walk.  In 2 years the amount of people attending went up to 20,000 people.  Then last year there were 35,000 people standing up for life.  This year the number of people is expected to grow considering the fact that the request for abortions has also grown.

This year will be my third year participating on the walk, and I would have to say that every year the number of people who are pro-abortion have decreased and those that are anti-abortion has increased.  It is really quite an amazing thing that is happening.  People are finally seeing the truth.  I remember last year their were people who came all the way from England to participate in the walk.  This event doesn’t just draw in people from California, but all over the world.  Those that come from different countries get a chance to enjoy the walk around San Francisco and at the same time stand up for the most innocent ones in our society today.

Every year before the walkers go for their walk through San Francisco, there are a variety of guest speakers.  Last year they had speakers such as:

Lila Rose, President of Live Action“Look around at your neighbors . . . what you’re looking at and what you are is the greatest of God’s creation. And that’s really why we’re here today. We’re not just here today because abortion is ugly, because it hurts people, because it’s evil. We’re here because of the person next to you and because of yourself. Because, we’re made in the image of God. Because, what we’re fighting for, not just what we’re fighting against, is the ultimate dignity of the human person made in God’s image” (Lila Rose).

Abby Johnson, a former director of a Planned Parenthood Clinic in Texas:   Her words were powerful and clear – “If you’re here, you’re an activist!”  (Abby Johnson)

Paul Ginoux-Defermont, one Organizer of the March for the Respect of Life in France:  He came all the way from France to join along the walk…”We are very blessed that San Francisco and Paris are now truly sister-cities as we cover both sides of the globe and stand together in spirit and heart to proclaim the sacredness of all human life from conception!” (1)

This year, speakers will be Kathy Eaton, Abby Johnson, Mary Poirier, and Denise and Brian Walker.  As this year is a new year we are expecting the amount of people attending to increase.  Rain or shine Pro-Life walkers will be there.  So come out and join this widely spread movement to protect the lives of the unborn babies in the world today!
