Journalism needs you! Next year’s journalism class needs hard workers and talented writers to run the DHS Telegram. The site is completely student run with writers producing articles and editors reviewing and publishing them. The class includes a huge social aspect as a reporter needs to be able to go out and get their interviews and take the footage necessary to produce a great article. Everyone is also expected to communicate well with their departments. These departments include School News, Sports News, Art & Entertainment, and if you are an editor, editorials. Upon starting the class, you are allowed to apply for whichever position in whichever department you prefer.
The school news department includes articles that range from school activities to the budget of our school and the salaries of the school district employees. Some of the more interesting articles written for schools news this year have been: a survey on marijuana use among seniors, articles on all the rallys and rally activities, a survey about summer vacation, and many more.
Sports news is built right into its name. It is about sports in general, but school sports is what is really stressed. However, many sports reporters have written editorials about predicitions of a big game or biographies about certain pros. A sports reporter is basically free to write about sports, giving them an opportunity to have a plethora of articles all year round.
Being in the Arts & Entertainment department comes with a lot of freedom. A&E reporters are able to write about basically anything that interests people. This can range from school related interests to music interests and movies. Some of the interesting articles from A&E include: Musical artist of the month articles, future movies and video games to be released, and many articles about celebrities and their happenings.
The journalism class would love to have anyone who would be dedicated to the class. The class will have plenty of open spots for next year. Please come into class D-107 or H111 or talk to your English teacher to receive an application for the class. Make your mark on the school and become part of the student run, DHS Telegram.
