Leadership Goes to CAJ
Friday, March 18th, the leadership class went to the Dixon middle school, CA Jacobs, to speak to the students and make them a barbecue. The leadership class wanted to advertise leadership to the upcoming freshmen next year. They left early Friday, right after first period, and did not return until the beginning of fifth period. They had to get to CA Jacobs early to prepare for the events that they soon held.
Volunteers from the leadership class went to CA Jacobs to make and serve food from the barbecue. Volunteers also went to set up decorations which included a balloon arch in the cafeteria. They also had someone dress up in the ram costume and cougar costume (the mascot for CA Jacobs). This was all in preparation for the main event. Leadership put on a rally for the eighth graders and a small rally for the seventh graders in the cafeteria.
The seventh graders did not receive much, except the enjoyment of music and the decorations that the leadership class put up. However, senior class president, Steven Chen, said that, “Everyone was dancing.” The eighth graders was really what the leadership class was trying to appeal to. Along with music and dancing, the eighth grade class enjoyed a small rally in which some eighth graders volunteered to participate in. They took part in two
games. One of which is a game where the eighth graders stood in a line with hands held, trying to pass a hula hoop from one end to the other. The second activity was the eighth graders trying to pass an orange between them, using only their necks. The DHS leadership class was giving the eighth graders a taste of what school spirit is like at the High School, but at the same time, trying to get new recruits for next year’s class.
The leadership class does need applicants for next year. Upcoming freshmen need to sign up and they can even become freshmen class officers. Leadership helps run all the events in and out of school. To get a leadership application, you can ask anyone in the class or go to Mrs. Jefferey’s class to pick up a leadership application.
