Music for Relief

The disaster that struck Japan brings up a really good question, “Who is willing to help?”  Many have said that it’s their problem.  Some people want to help, but they don’t have the money.  So, why don’t those people that have a ton of money help those that need help.  Movie stars and singers…these guys make a ton of money, and how many of them are willing to go out of their way to help those in need?  Sadly, very few of the people that we idolize are ever willing to actually help others.

Music for relief is a charity founded by Linkin Park  in 2005.  Their goal being to aid people that need help after natural disasters, and to raise awareness of global warming.

If you go to musicforrelief.org you will find ways to help out those that need help.  At the moment the organization is saving money for those that experienced the disaster in Japan.  You can donate money on the website, download a song, or buy a t-shirt.  All the profit made will all go to help those who are in need of help in Japan right now.  They will soon release Download to Donate: Tsunami Relief Japan, another compilation of songs, in which the proceeds will go to Save the Children.

Along with helping people, the band is also committed to helping the environment.   The money that they get through the organization is also used to plant trees.   Music For Relief has helped plant over 810,000 trees to help reduce global warming.

Here is a list of the bands accomplishments:

*Over $3,900,000 in donations

*810,000 trees planted to sequester more than 270,000 tons of CO2

*programs have helped survivors of:

*2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami

*Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Hannah, Ike & Gustav

*Cyclones Nargis in Burma, Sidr, and Aila in Bangladesh

*Wildfires in Southern California & Victoria Australia

*Typhoons Ketsana, Parma, Morakot and Lupit in Southeast Asia

*2010 Haiti Earthquake

*Zimbabwe Cholera Outbreak

*Tornado in Mena, Arkansas

*China’s Wenchuan Earthquake

*2009 Earthquakes in the Pacific Islands and Indonesia

*Monsoon Flooding in Pakistan

This is a perfect opportunity for anybody that wants to help those in Japan without having to leave the country, a sure way of helping everyone out there that needs help.  Linkin Park is setting a really good example to other bands and those that we see as hero’s.  Hero’s aren’t constantly trying to earn praise for what they do, they help others that need the help, and they are knowledgeable to see how much they have been blessed.  In knowing all this they are able to give without expecting anything in return.  They know that what they have been given isn’t just meant for themselves, but for those that need it.  Which is something that everyone in the media world should realize.  Those that make it on t.v. need to realize how fortunate they are and start giving to the poorest of the poor, the weakest of the weak.  We live in a self-centered society, and it’s nice to see a group of guys that are willing to give more than receive.
