Busy past week for Rams water polo
Dixon Varsity boys and girls water polo traveled to Bella Vista High School on Tuesday September 6 for a non-conference game. The boys lost the match by a score of 10-6. The Rams had six players score one goal a piece but it was not enough to overcome a determined Bella Vista squad.
The Varsity girls played the most exciting game of the evening. The Lady Rams battled back from an early deficit to make it a close game, until the end, before losing 7-6. Madison Dwelley led the Ram attack with 4 goals.
Alexis Tyhurst and Zoe Kratzer added 1 goal each.
Both varsity teams were back in action Thursday, September 8 against their former conference rivals Rio Linda. The boys appeared well prepared for the Knights
. Coach Vlach expected the boys to have some fairly “tough” competition, but the coaches has been working with the Rams offensive players on turning the Knights defenders in the water and based on the results it worked. The boys sunk Rio Linda 20-12. Brian Poole had 4 goals, 5 assists, and 5 steals. Alex LaBass, Alex Gonzalez and Wolfie Reidel scored 3 goals each.
The girls faced a much smaller (in numbers) team from Rio Linda. The girls played tough defense and worked hard to move toward the goal on offense. In the past Dixon has played quite a few close games against the Lady Knights, but on this day the Lady Rams pounded the opposition 19-9. Madison Dwelley and Zoe Kratzer scored 4 goals each in 1.5 quarters of play.
The Rams begin tournament play this weekend and the coaches expect to see just where the team stacks up against tougher competition early in the season. Good luck to both teams this weekend.
Go Rams!
