Boys Varsity water polo against Bethel

The past week for water polo was a slow one. The boys Varsity team and JV coed are the only teams that had a game, because Bethel High School is new to the water polo scene. According to coach Michael Vlach Bethel is a little inexperienced. This is new to the DHS water polo team because they are used to tough competition, but they were able to practice their defensive strategies and passes.

On offense the Rams were able to pass the ball around a lot, making their scoring evenly distributed. Players on the Varsity team such as Alex LaBass, Alex Gonzalas, Wolfie Riedel, and Dustin Halverson scored two goals each. Channing Madden had some good saves, and while he was in the game at goalie he allowed no goals to be made by the other team. Along with the scoring they had great passing. And on defense the Rams did a great job shutting down Bethel. The Rams Varsity team wound up winning 14-5.

In JV action freshman Robert Sandle scored three goals.  And Brooke Spradling sparked the Ram fast break attack getting open to set up other players on offense. Jillian Raycraft was also very strong on defense but many players were rotated throughout the game and no one had a lot of playing time.

According to coach Vlach the toughest league competition will be against Rodriguez and Benicia. Let’s wish the Rams water polo good luck because Tuesday October 4th they face one of their top competitors, the Benicia Panthers, in Vallejo.

Go Rams!
