Success after high school
Have you ever wondered where the couple hundred of students that graduate from Dixon High go each year? Many of the students have gone onto really successful colleges, from UC’s to State Colleges in many different majors.
Kiana Hall graduated from Dixon High school in 2010. Kiana was a part of the Arts and Design Acadamy, and she was on the track team most of her high school years. She now majors in Biology at San Jose State University. To her, Dixon had limited diversity, and now being in San Jose there are a lot more opportunities for success, she says. Her life now is going to school, being with friends, and being an active member of a sorority.
Nicole Hagstrom graduated in 2011, and now attends Colorado Mesa University. She has focused her studies in Kinesiology Exercise Science, and wants to get a career involving athletic training, physical therapy, or sports medicine. Dixon has affected Nicole in a positive way: it is where memories were made and friendships were started. This makes her time back in Dixon very important to her. Being so far away from her friends, she has been pushed to be more outgoing, and this has made her a stronger and more independent person.
Chris Baroody was also a 2011 graduate. He is a Biology major at UC Santa Cruz. He plans on going to graduate school afterwards and finding a career in Biology. Dixon has shown Chris that a close group of friends is quite important. Now being in Santa Cruz, he has a sense of independence that at times can be pretty stressful.
Melissa Immel also attends a UC. She is majoring in Communication and minoring in Spanish at Santa Barbara after graduating in 2011. After graduating from UC Santa Barbara, she would like to work in public relations or for a non-profit organization. Dixon has affected her in the same way as most of the other past students. Her friendships and relationships with other people has affected who she is. Now that she is on her own, she has gotten a sense of responsibility, and she is handling it well.
All these different alumni have shown what the graduates of Dixon can accomplish and how Dixon has a positive affect on the youth.
