Senioritis takes over

When you were in high school, did you ever have something called Senioritis? Or if you are currently in high school, have you heard about this “disease”? Senioritis is not qualified to be an actual disease, but it is very much a real thing. Of course, the students with Senioritis are the mighty Seniors in high school.

There are many symptoms that are common for any student disgnosed with Senioritis. The only difference between the common student with the same symptoms and a person with Senioritis is that the Senioritis case is much worse. These symptoms include procrastination, lack of motivation, drop in academic performance, desire to drop out of school, little concentration during and after class, truancy, and frequent tardiness.

Dalton Bogardus, a current Senior at DHS, definitely has Senioritis. Unfortunately, he thinks that he has it pretty bad. Some of his symptoms include not doing a lot of school and work and not putting in much effort. Even though he still aces all of his tests, he doesn’t complete parts of his classwork.

Alyssa Smith is also a Senior who has this “disease”. She thinks that she doesn’t have it extremely bad, but right after the college application process she got it pretty bad. “I come home from school and don’t do any school work unless it’s a big project,” says Smith about her symptoms of Senioritis. “I don’t really care that much about the grades I get and I can’t wake up for school. I just wear sweats and sweatshirts everyday.”

Most underclassmen do not think that they will get Senioritis, but they will probably surprise themselves come Senior year. However, both Bogardus and Smith thought that they would get it. “I knew that I would get it and it’s exactly how I thought it would be,” says Dalton. Alyssa also knew that she would get it, but she didn’t think that it would be this bad. This shows that you never know exactly how you are going to be affected by the time the last semester of your Senior year shows up.

All Seniors only have four months left of their high school careers until the next step in their lives arrives: college. Could their conditions of Senioritis possibly get any worse? Once again, both Seniors agree that their Senioritis will indeed stay the same or get worse in the next few months until they successfully graduate. “It can’t get any worse,” said Dalton.

All of these innocent Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen do not know what they have coming for them. “I would suggest to the younger students to try really hard the first semester of their Senior year because the grades still count a lot,” said Alyssa. Dalton doesn’t really have any advice for them because he thinks that it will happen no matter what.

Overall Senioritis greatly affects many Seniors nationwide. Senior year is definitely one of the most exciting years of high school, but it is also the most lazy year. Seniors just want to be done with high school and move on to something bigger and better. Also, all of their applications are already turned in halfway though the year so they are relieved that they are almost done. Seniors have worked hard throughout high school so teachers and parents should understand that they can slack off a little bit as long as they continue their journeys through college.
