Dixon Rams dominate their league opener
The Dixon Rams dominated their league opener against the West Campus Warriors, overwhelming the Warriors with their speed and quickness the entire game. The Rams would go onto dominate this game, winning 76 to 45.
The Rams really got out to a quick start and absolutely out ran the opposing Warriors. The Warriors kept it close for the first few minutes of the game, but eventually the Rams really ran away with this game after getting many fast break points off of Warrior turnovers.
The Rams got out to a quick start and went out to a quick 11 to 4 lead in the first quarter until the Warriors coach, Fred Wilson, called a timeout to regroup with his team. After the timeout the Rams continued to pile it on and added 5 more points until the Warriors recovered. The Warriors got a couple of fast break points and went on an 8-0 run to climb back into the game 16 to 12. The Rams though finished off and hit two threes from Isaiah Kelley and Jeffrey Miner to finish off the first quarter up 22-12.
The Rams in the second quarter would get off to another quick start, and went on a 10 to 2 run until Warriors coach called a timeout after going down 32-16. However the timeout didn’t slow down the Rams at all as they went on a 13 to 1 run on the back of point guard, Michael Tomelloso, who scored 9 points in the quarter. The Rams would finish the half dominating the Warriors 45 to 17.
The Rams would continue to control the third quarter and even after going out of rotation, and they were still able to man handle the weaker Warriors team. The Warriors however got their best play of the game in the third quarter and were actually able to outscore the Rams 16 to 12 in the third quarter, to cut the lead to 57-33.
The Warriors however were never able to get back into striking distance as the Rams were able to maintain their 20 plus lead all the w
ay through. The Ramswere able to open up their dominate lead to 31 point differential, after they got a 15-4 run to close out the win 76 to 45.
The Rams truly outplayed the Warriors and started out their league play with a big win against a league rival. The Rams last year lost a tough game at West Campus, but this year the Rams outplayed the Warriors and let their relentless press defense do most of the work for them.
With this win the Rams will stretch their win streak to 7 games and will start out their league play with a 1-0 record and add onto their overall 12 -6 record. The Rams have really been playing well off the backs of a few senior leaders, for instance senior point guard, Michael Tomelloso, lead the Rams with 20 points, and senior forward, Bryan Hollowell, scored 17 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists.
The Rams this Friday will have their toughest game yet against the dominant Capital Christian Cougars. The Cougars are 13-4, and have played great basketball all year long. The Rams will have a true test this Friday on the road against the first place Cougars.
