Lady Rams lose a tough league opener
On Wednesday, January 18th, the Dixon Lady Rams had a home game against West Campus. The game started off very intense and each team was energetic the entire game.
The first quarter was a low scoring part of the game for both West Campus and Dixon. The Lady Rams were up 10 to 6 at the end of this quarter. Each team was playing tight defense on each other and trying to keep the score as tight as possible.
The Lady Rams went into the second quarter strong. They had their mind set on the game after knowing how tough the other team was going to play. They began to fall apart and make many turnovers, one after another. Dixon was only able to score 7 points this quarter while West campus scored 13 points. The final score of this quarter was 19-17, Dixon.
After half time, Dixon came back playing just as well as they had been before. They ended the third quarter 28 to 28: a tie. This was a very close game as you can tell. Each team was realizing that they didn’t have that much more time to get the lead, but Dixon was having trouble getting their shots to go in.
The final quarter was played at a very fast pace. The teams were both anxious to score and get ahead of the other team. Dixon continued to make turnovers thoughout and were not making many of their free throws. The Lady Rams found their strong defense and were able to shut down West Campus. At this point, each team was playing very aggressive, but West Campus was getting a little rough. Dixon scored 10 points this quarter and West Campus scored 14 points, making the final score 38 to 42. West Campus won this game by only 4 points.
The team played very well overall. It was a close game but exciting to watch. Turnovers were a key factor in the Lady Rams loss.
Two stand out players in this game were Madison Dwelley and Miranda Williams. Madison Dwelley had 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Miranda Williams had 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals.
