College applicants await their news
Applying to college is, without a doubt, a very stressful and scary process. Seniors spend the first semester of their last year at high school applying to colleges throughout the world. What they put on their applications and how they presents themselves really affects their chances of getting into their desired college(s). Unfortunately, Seniors have to wait months to find out if they were accepted or not. This wait is very nerve-racking and stressful for all Seniors that are determined to get into college. I interviewed some of our own Seniors here at DHS to find out how they feel about waiting for the news.
Senior Nicole Solano is one of the top of her class. She has received A’s all throughout high school and her GPA is outstanding. Solano only decided to apply to two colleges of her interest- both out of state. She applied to BYU Idaho and BYU Utah, Utah being her top choice.”I started my applications in October,” said Nicole. “The deadline for my applications was in December, but I finished all of mine in November.” She got notified of her acceptance to BYU Idaho two days after she submitted her application. “I don’t find out if I get into BYU Utah until the end of February,” she said. Solano will be visiting the BYU Utah campus next week to audition to get into their dance program even though she does not know if she has been accepted yet. She is brave applying to only two colleges, but her grades and test scores are good enough that she is very confident. Solano is both nervous and excited about receiving the news in February.
Another Senior that spent their first few months of Senior year is Miles Mistler. He applied to multiple UC’s, Chapman University, St. Mary’s, University of San Francisco, and University of San Diego. “I finished all of my applications by the early decision deadline, except for St. Mary’s,” he said. His top choice of school is either University of San Fransisco, which he has already been accepted or UC Davis. “My safety is probably St. Mary’s,” said Mistler. “I already found out that I was accepted to University of San Francisco, and I will find out about the other schools in the next two months.” Miles is nervous to find out where he has been accepted, but he isn’t too worried because he has already been notified of his acceptance to a great school.
Overall, applying to colleges is a scary experience. The wait for admittance or denial is sketchy but very worth the wait. Our Seniors here at DHS are very determined to get into college, and they will be very successful in their futures.
