The Hunger Games midnight premiere

Tonight, March 23rd,  the much-anticipated movie among readers of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins hits theaters at midnight. Some students from DHS, who will be present at tonight’s screening, have been waiting for this moment since the trailer first came out months earlier. Others, who have read the books have different opinions, being either they refuse to have the Hollywood interpretation ruin the trilogy or object to the 2 AM ending of the film with school following later in the morning.

The Hunger Games is a trilogy written in the voice of sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where the countries of North America once existed. The Capitol, a highly advanced metropolis, holds absolute power over the rest of the nation. The Hunger Games is an annual event in which one boy and one girl, ages 12 to 18, from each of the 12 districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a televised battle in which only one person can survive. Catching Fire and Mockingjay are the books in the books following The Hunger Games in the trilogy.

As the hours count down to the midnight showing, anticipation is high- hopefully the film lives up to the expectations of fans worldwide.
