Spring break at DHS
Every year at Dixon High School, spring break is looked at as a week of relaxation and enjoyment. This year, spring break is from Saturday, March 31 through Sunday, April 8th, so the first week of the month of April. Seeing as students haven’t had a long break like this for four months, this break couldn’t happen at a better time. Students have been spending so much of their time working hard for their classes, and they deserve to have a nice time relaxing their minds for a week. What do some of these students have planned for their spring break? I went and found out.
Some students at DHS are travelling across the world for their break. When I say some students, I mean most of the Dixon Rugby Team. These students include Kraig Roscoe and Justin Giardino, who are juniors. They are visiting England for the next week. They leave today, March 30th, and return the day before Easter, April 7th. “We are going for Rugby games and tournaments,” said Roscoe when I asked him about what they would be doing in England. They don’t know all of the city names that they are visiting, but they know that they are visiting Wales and a city called Rugby. Neither of these two boys have been to England before, so this will be their first visit.
Matt Bombard is another junior at Dixon High, but he is not going too far away from Dixon. Bombard is an athlete on the DHS Tennis team this year. “I plan to play a lot of tennis over spring break,” said Matt. “As of now, we have practice, but there are probably going to be a lot of matches so we will practice in the early morning and have matches in the afternoon.” Unfortunately, it is supposed to rain next week, which stops the tennis team from practicing since the ground is so slippery. Hopefully it does not rain next week.
From the people that I was able to interview, two of them are going to the happiest place on Earth, Disneyland. Disneyland is a very popular place to go for breaks, which mean that the lines might be extremely long, but this doesn’t stop Matt Samartino and Shannon Miner from visiting. Matt is going with his family and he is very excited for his trip. “My favorite ride is the Matterhorn and I’m going to go on it fifty times,” he said. “My least favorite ride is It’s a Small World.” Shannon is going to Disneyland for three days during spring break, and then her mom and her are planning on visiting some colleges down South. ”We are going to UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, Pepperdine, and Cal Poly,” said Miner. Hopefully the Disneyland lines won’t be too long for them.
Bryan Poole is a junior at DHS who is also going down south for break. “I am going to go look at colleges down in Southern California,” said Poole. He is going with his parents and sister. They plan on flying down, and then renting a car to return to Dixon. He doesn’t have any tours scheduled yet, so he just wants to get a feel for what they have 0ffered.
Students sound like they have very exciting plans for spring break. Maybe this will give them a chance to relax a little bit. We hope that everyone has a great trip and safe travels.
