North Korea announces satellite rocket to be launched
North Korea announced last month that they would launch a rocket carrying a satellite into orbit sometime between Tuesday April 10th and april 16th.This provocative move is to mark the 100th anniversery of their former leader, Kim Il Sung. The launch is believed to be cover for a long range ballistic missile test according to South Korean inteligence and has set South Korea, United States, and Japan on high alert.
If North Korea goes through with the plan they will be violating the United Nations’ security council resolutions and possibly face severe sanctions against them.Meanwhile China, North Korea’s closest allie suggested that North Korea ought to act more diplomaticly and make an effort for better communication instead of acting in such an aggresive way.
Neighboring countries fear rocket debris could fall if the rocket proves unstable. Japan’s defense minister has ordered missile units to intercept the rocket if it or its fragments threaten to hit Japan. South Korea has prepared for the possibility of rocket fallout and has warned the North that they would shootdown the rocket if it, in anyway threatened its surrounding territory.
It is interesting to see that North Korea chooses to invest what little money and recources the country has on this rocket of theirs while many of the countrys people are poor, uneducated, and malnourished. It seems they ignore the reality that they are unsupported by all sides on their launch plan. They are unsupported because they refuse to act reasonably and peacefully.
North Korea’s long history of aggressive behavior has had lasting effects on how the world looks at them and this stunt could be purly to bring more attention to themselves. This will be the third such launch since 1998 yet the world is more on alert than ever. Only time will tell how this will all play out.
