DHS Junior Prom approaches
Prom is something that many students wait for years to experience. It is a night full of dancing, dressing up, and having fun with great friends. Next Saturday, April 28th, Dixon High School will be hosting its own Junior Prom at Elks Tower in Sacramento.
Prom gives students a chance to dress up in very formal attire. It also gives them a break from the very stressful end of the school year to just enjoy themselves and have a fantastic night. Even though many girls and guys spend a lot of money on this event, many people think that is is worth it. Girls spend their money on their dress, hair, makeup, jewelry, shoes, limo, corsage, and whatever else they require. Guys spend money on their Tux, prom bids, limo, and whatever else them and their date agrees on paying for. As you can see, it can be a very costly event for these young teenagers who most likely have a low paying job or not even a job at all.
Even though the correct title is “Junior Prom”, many other students from different classes go to it. Since this is the seniors’ last formal dance of high school, many of them attend Prom. Also, you can be an underclassman and still go. There are no rules that state that only juniors are allowed to tend the Junior Prom. It is just hosted by the junior class, and the juniors from Leadership are responsible for getting everything together.
Even though it does cost a significant amount of money, the reward of looking nice and having fun pays off. Students spend their whole days getting ready for the dance that started at 8pm and lasts until midnight. Usually there are different groups of peoples who couples decide to group with for the pre and post dance. “Groups” typically get together before the dance to take pictures and eat. They ride in the same limo or party bus together, and then they can separate once the destination is reached. After the dance is over, they reunite and ride the same limo or party bus home. Usually groups are full of close friends so that everything can run smoothly and comfortably.
Once at the dance, there are many different options of events to chose from. Dancing is the most popular, which includes students dancing to a DJ that is hired by the leadership class. Appetizers are also provided to the students who attend, including small snacks and water. There is also a photo booth where you can pay a fee and take pictures with your friends. For this years prom, the theme is “Casino”, so there are rumors that casino-like games will also be available for students to play. Students should definitely not get bored while they are at prom.
Luis Martin is a junior at Dixon High who is attending prom next weekend. His date is Analiss Gomez, who is a sophomore. He is going with a group of friends, who involve Kaycie Reeb and her date. “I have not seen my date’s dress yet,” said Martin. He has not even gotten his tuxedo yet and he plans to get it Saturday the 21st or Sunday the 22nd. He has just saved up money in order to get prepared for prom. He guesses that he will spend over $200 from Prom, but he thinks that it is worth it because they are all going to have fun. Luis said that he is excited but nervous at the same time, since it is his first time going and he doesn’t know what to do when he gets there.
Vanessa Preciado is also a Junior who is going to Prom next weekend. Her date is Jesus Rodriguez and they both decided that they would go together is 9th grade when they were together, but now they are just friends and they are still going to go together. “We are going to go with a bunch of friends that we have been friends with since 7th grade,” she said. She got her dress about a month ago in Las Vegas when the soccer team was there for a tournament. She is going to surprise her date by not showing him her dress until the day of Prom because it just has a full effect of being a surprise. “I showed him the color of it so that he was able to get a matching vest,” she said. She thinks that she probably spent about $300 on Prom this year, and she thinks that it is a little excessive but the dress was worth it.
Overall, Prom will be a great experience for all of the students at Dixon High School. Hopefully it will be a fun and safe night for everybody.
