Body Modification Protection Act petition goes out
Each and every individual has the right to modify their body. What somebody does or doesn’t do is their own choice. Someone that makes a decision to get a tattoo or piercing should not be denied an employment opportunity, or any opportunity for that matter, because that is unfair. Rights cannot be denied to people who choose to look different, just as they cannot be denied to those who do not choose to look different. A doctor with tattoos is just as capable and intelligent as a doctor without. A firefighter or a cop with gauged ears is as brave as a firefighter or cop without. Body modification does not change a person’s abilities. This petition demands that all schools (public and private), employers (federal, military, state, private, and all others), and religions to remove all dress codes requiring the absence or limiting of body modifications of any sort. As well as protect the right to body modification and protection against discrimination.
To provide someone the opportunity to modify their appearance, but in return not allow them into a workplace doesn’t seem right. Hair dye is a body modification, as are women’s ear piercings, yet they are accessorized and considered acceptable in the workplace. To say some forms of body modification are okay and others are not is unjust.
If this petition is passed, it will permit all body modifications or any type to be recognized by the US government, all other governments and organizations, and should be protected by laws as their own human and individual right. This petition is intended to end discrimination against permanent or temporary body modifications such as piercings, tattoos, hair dye colors, etc, and to have them accepted by employers and groups.
The way my generation is, more people than not have either a piercing or a tattoo or both. Will my entire generation be jobless? Expressing ourselves is something we shouldn’t be punished for. The appearance of an individual does not determine their intelligence or capabilities. Organizations will be forced to accept people whose appearance is considered ‘abnormal’, and it will become the normal. Denying someone who has modified their body the right to a job would have to be thoroughly explained as to why they are unfit for the job.
Individual rights are not to be infringed upon and denying one certain rights due to their body modification choices is unfair. This petition should be signed and the discrimination should be eliminated.
