The aftermath of Prom

This past weekend, DHS hosted their Prom at Elks Tower in Sacramento, California. For the most part, the students that were actually able to get into Prom had a really great time, and I found out what made their night so memorable.

The theme of prom was “Casino Night”, where there were many different games that can be found in a casino. Once students walked into the building, they had to go into an elevator and go up to the second story, where they found the dance floor and the pictures that were being taken. After the students walked onto the dance floor, they could also choose to go up some stairs to get an overview of the dance flood and all of the tables where people were sitting at. Up on this “balcony” like structure, there were some card tables with decks of cards on them. Throughout the night, students were able to play many different card games with their peers. Upstairs was just a hangout spot where students could watch all of their fellow students dancing and having a good time.

Surrounding the dance floor, there were multiple round tables where people put down all of their stuff and claimed tables for themselves and their groups. This is where students were able to sit when they got tired of dancing or just wanted to rest. The tables were decorated with a craft that was made up of different playing cards and casino tokens, adding the casino theme to the room.

Many people can say that one of the best parts about Prom was the free photobooth. This small picture booth allowed students to take an unlimited amount of pictures with each other. Once students stepped into the booth, they chose either the black and white or color option for their photos. The camera would take four different pictures of them in different poses and then print out two copies within 20 seconds for the students to take home. The line for the photobooth did get long at some points of the night, but for the most part, students were able to take many different photos throughout their fun filled night.

For every Prom, there is always a Prom King and Queen. This year, our Prom King was David Diaz. “I was very surprised to win Prom King,” said Diaz. “I was surprised that all of my friends actually got everybody to vote for me.” He had no idea that he was going to win, but he is very happy. The Prom Queen for 2012 was Mariellen Hofland, the date of David Diaz.”I was very excited and thankful for my friends,” said Mariellen. Besides from a small comment that she heard by one of her AP Biology classmates previous to the dance, she had no idea that she was going to win. She is also very happy that she won, and she had a great time at Prom.

Mae McGuire is a sophomore at Dixon High School who attended the Prom with her boyfriend, Junior Erich Baur. “We had lots of fun,” said Mae. “We got back really late but it was so fun.” They went to Prom in a party bus with about 28 people and they all took pictures before they left. This was Mae’s first Prom and she said that it was better than she expected it to be.

Kaeli Tully is a Junior at Dixon High and she went to Prom with her Senior boyfriend, Casey Aubert. Kaeli and her date went to Prom with the same group as Mae, and she said that they had a great time at Prom. Kaeli has been to Prom before, but she said that this Prom was definitely better than the others. “The music was better than last year’s music,” she said. “I just went with a really fun group of people.”

Jenna Strong is also another Junior who went to Prom with Dillon Page. “It was the best Prom that I have been to,” she said. “The DJ was a lot better than last year, even though he kept saying the class of 2012.” They went with a big group of people in a party bus. She said that Prom was how she expected it to be, and the photobooth was really awesome.

Overall, it sounds like many people had fun at Prom. It is very unfortunate for the students who weren’t able to experience Prom like these students did.
