The Dixon Rams baseball team won their first round game against Ripon High School in dominant fashion, winning 15-7. The Rams will advance to the semi’s to play Hilmar in a best out of three series.

In an interview with ABC news, the president said,  ”At a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me, personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.” Many are surprised at Obama’s new view, seeing as just a few years ago he was ago he thought the civil union option was sufficient. But his views have been “evolving.” ”I was sensitive to the fact that — for a lot of people — that the word marriage is something that provokes very powerful traditions and religious beliefs.”

A recent gallop poll shows that fifty percent of Americans are for it while forty eight percent don’t believe that kind of marriage should be legal. One recent split was in North Carolina, where the hotly debated issue led to its banning in the state. Obama said earlier Wednesday that he personally was disappointed, and that the policy was discriminatory against gays and lesbians. North Carolina passed the ban, even though same sex marriage is illegal by state law, to prevent any future legal challenges. Despite the recent law in North Carolina, though, President Obama does support states making the decision on there own.

In his interview the president said his daughters Malia and Sasha have friends with parents of the same sex and “it wouldn’t dawn on them that somehow their friends’ parents would be treated differently. It doesn’t make sense to them and frankly, that’s the kind of thing that prompts a change in perspective.”

Was the president’s controversial decision driven strictly by policy or by politics? With an estimated one million in donations just ninety minutes after his interview, was this just pandering for his upcoming campaign? And if so, was this his best decision? This decision could give Romney the force he needs among the social conservatives.

After Exit polls started to show Hollande’s 51.6% over Sarkozy’s 48%, the former president said that he held the entire responsibility for the loss and that  ”I fought for the values of responsibility, and I’m not a man who does not accept his responsibilities.” The former leader said he is ready to “become a French person amongst French people,” trying to express his gratitude and admiration of his home land.

After claiming his victory and campaigning on a platform of reversing the cost cutting economic policies that France and and a majority of Europe has adopted, in his victory speech he vowed to keep his promises– “The first duty of the president of the Republic is to bring together and link all citizens to communal action…(and) reducing our deficit in order to control debt….the preservation of our social model to ensure to all the same, equal access to public services.”

Hollande also extended a greating to Sarkozy, saying that “Sarkozy has led France for five years and deserves our respect.” The former leader thanked his supporters despite the widespread anger over how he handled the economy.

With Greece, a prime example of where many European economies may be heading, are Hollande’s promises of reversing the cost cutting that much of the world has undergone a good thing? The people of France are definitely not afraid to show how they feel, which has been vividly illustrated over the past ten years through riots and social change, but are these economic reforms a necessary cut back for future growth?

Summer is fast approaching and for some people this will mostly mean tanks and sandals all day every day, but that’s just the start of it. There are plenty of styles to choose from so you can look great this summer no matter what you do. First, I’ll start with guys style. Easily the most popular look for this summer, the tank is great because it’s simple and comfortable. Plus, a tank allows your upper arms to get some sun on those nice hot days. The design varieties for tanks are endless. Some have a simple design and others are more complex. Another sweet buy for this summer is some good quality, comfortable sandals. Sandals are okay for any type of casual setting or occasion. The best part about owning some really nice sandals is that they will look cool with almost any type of clothes. Whether it’s board shorts, jeans, khakis, or cargo shorts, they will work.  Your feet will feel good and look better with sandals due to the fact that with regular shoes your feet will be unable to breath as well. You can also save time not worrying about washing those dirty socks of yours. Another great thing to wear during the summer are cargo shorts. Cargo shorts give you comfort and are usually of great quality. They can last you a long time before staring to wear out. I want to wrap this up by discussing my very limited knowledge on what a girl would wear during the summer. I would imagine a girl of my age wearing something like a blouse, short shorts and some Toms. Again i want to emphasize my very vague, inaccurate idea of what any girl might be wearing on a typical summer day. Please don’t judge me.  Just remember be comfortable, try to be creative, and don’t be afraid to have fun. An important thing to remember is that summer is about kicking back, doing whatever you want and living it up before school starts again. If there’s ever a time to be lazy and be yourself everyday, summer is it. The number one thing you have to consider this summer if you want to look good is if it really feels good when you wear whatever it is. If you find yourself hot, irritated or just plain awkward, then take it off and roll with something else on. You have to feel comfortable in something if you want it to work for you, and that’s just common sense. But you’re probably not a fool. I’m probably even telling you news you know already.

Over 2,000 people crowded into UC Davis' Main Quad to here Texas Rep. Ron Paul speak

While the presidential campaign hasn’t really hit California yet like it has other states, the race to become the Republican presidential nominee hit pretty close to Dixon last Thursday. Republican presidential candidate and Texas Rep. Ron Paul held a massive rally at UC Davis in the main quad. Over 2,000 people pushed, shoved, and even climbed trees to hear the views of the 76-year-old.

The majority of the attendees appeared to be students from a variety of local universities. Students wearing Sac State, Solano College, American River College, Sacramento City College, and of course UC Davis sweatshirts were peppered throughout the crowd that included young families, senior citizens, and baby boomers.

Several Dixon High School students also attended the rally. “It was really great to get to see him speak in person, and I hope that it was as big a deal for everybody else as it was for me, ” says Junior Zach Creech.

Paul delivered his now typical rally speech knowing that he was speaking to a crowd of supporters. Several anti-paul detractors tried to derail the event by waiving signs with liberal phrases and wore KKK-style bed sheets, however the rally was large enough that it seemed to swallow and naturally force out those individuals.

Paul had held a rally the night before at UC San Diego that attracted around 3500 people. Earlier that day, Mr. Paul held a fundraiser luncheon in Sacramento and raised a significant sum of money, making the day’s campaign well worth the trip to California.

The Dixon Lady Rams soccer team won the GEL title, and will be the number 1 seed in the section 5 playoffs. This is the first time the Lady Rams have won their own division since the 2003, when they took first in the CVC league. The Rams since have had great success, but haven’t won their own league in 9 years until now. The Lady Rams are very excited to move on into the playoffs as they will be taking on the winner of an out bracket game between Summerville and Hughson.

Although they haven’t won league in 9 years, this isn’t the first time the Lady Rams have been in the playoffs. The Lady Rams have had a history of making the playoffs, but not necessarily having success there. In the last 11 years, the Lady Rams have made the playoffs in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2012. However, only one of those years did the Rams actually advance deeply into the playoffs, which was the year of 2008, when the Lady Rams made it all the way to the semi-finals before losing to Sonora, the section champions in 2008.

The LadyRams in all their success of making the playoffs have never actually won the section tournament. The walls are filled with soccer section championships, but none of them say “Girls Soccer”. This rich history could finally come to its climax, as the Rams are in the best chance they have ever had to win the section tournament, and reign as 2012 section champions.

The Rams are coming off a loss on Senior Night, buts it’s nothing the lady Rams can’t come back from to claim glory in the playoffs. The Lady Rams will have to remain motivated, because the journey of the playoffs is not an easy one- it takes a lot of heart and a strong will to win.

At this point in the year, there are no more easy wins and throw away games. It’s all or nothing- winner takes all. The Lady Rams just need to win to get to the finals, and of course one more win to take the section championship home.

The Lady Rams are looking for everyone’s support as they will host the first round of the playoffs on their own field on Tuesday May 15^th, at 7:00 p.m.
